Jeff Bezos is so rich he can make $13.2 billion (£10b) in just 15 minutes without lifting a finger.

The 56-year-old Amazon CEO earned the vast sum when his company posted holiday quarter results well above expectations on Thursday.

The positive numbers were the result of Amazon’s one-day shipping program expansion coming under budget and Prime loyalty club membership rising by 50% in two years.

Bloomberg reported Bezos, the richest man in the world, made $13.2b (£10b) in a quarter of an hour.

He is now worth an estimated $129.5b (£100b).

Bezos’ ex-wife MacKenzie Bezos, 49, owns 4% of Amazon following their divorce so she also had reason to celebrate.

Her net worth is around $37.1b (£28b) and she is the 24th richest person in the world.

Bezos owns approximately 12% of Amazon stock.

Shares in Amazon soared as much as 13% in after-hours trade on Thursday, putting the online retailer back in the $1 trillion market capitalization club.

If the share gain holds on Friday, it will be the biggest daily jump for Amazon since October 2017.

Amazon also forecast operating income of up to $4.2b in the current quarter, down from $4.4b (£3b) the year prior.

That appeared to assuage investor concerns about Amazon’s continued spending on fast delivery, which could have erased windfalls from e-commerce, advertising and cloud computing sales.

Bezos said in a statement the world’s biggest online retailer now has more than 150 million paid members in its loyalty club Prime, a 50% increase from its last disclosure in April 2018.

Subscribers keep returning to Amazon to benefit from perks like fast delivery, television and music streaming.

Its suite of voice-controlled Echo speakers has prompted still more engagement from customers, and grocery orders more than doubled in the holiday quarter in a vote of confidence for Amazon’s 2017 bet to buy Whole Foods Market.
