Arsenal submit 'lucrative' offer to sign Emre Can in deadline day transfer
by Coral BarryEmre Can is weighing up his options after receiving a ‘luractive’ offer from Arsenal, according to reports.
The former Liverpool star was edging closer to a transfer to Borussia Dortmund after falling down the pecking order at Juventus.
Sport 1 claim that although Dortmund are leading the race for Can, Tottenham and Arsenal have made a late move to lure the midfielder back to the Premier League.
The January transfer window closes at 11pm on Friday and Arsenal and Spurs face a race against time to get a deal over the line for Can.
The offers are described as ‘lucrative’, with Paris Saint-Germain and an unnamed Spanish club also submitting bids.
Dortmund’s deal for Can is believed to be worth £25.2million and will see the 26-year-old join on loan before making the move permanent.
However, the late interest from Arsenal and others has caused Can to pause and consider his options.
Can is yet to make a final decision on his next club, but the German transfer window closes at 5pm.
Arsenal may find it difficult to convince Can after it was reported the Germany international turned down an approach for Manchester United out of respect for Liverpool.
Can spent four years at Anfield and his exit was of great disappointment to Jurgen Klopp and many Liverpool fans.
Since moving to Juventus on a free transfer in 2018, Can has found it difficult to nail down a regular starting place and has made just eight appearances in total this season.
Can’s issues at Juventus peaked when he was left out of their Champions League squad at the start of the season.
