Travellers in lay by near Measham

The eviction process has started to remove travellers who were spotted walking around a village "carrying chainsaws".

Roughly 10 caravans can be seen parked up in a lay by in Tamworth Road, just outside the North West Leicestershire village of Measham.

They are believed to have been there for roughly a week in a lay by, which is home to the Ace of Spades cafe.

A spokesman from the agency that deals with travellers for Leicestershire County Council has today, January 30, said eviction proceeding have now begun.

A spokesperson for the "multi-agency travellers unit" said: "We are aware of travellers on Tamworth Road, Measham.

"We have started the proceedings to have them evicted."

Residents yesterday told Burton Live they were "scared", with one saying they had seen the travellers walking around with chainsaws asking people if they wanted their gardens trimming.

Burton Live has sought further information on how the agency carry out the eviction.
