Controversial tennis star Nick Kyrgios reignites feud with Novak Djokovic on Instagram

by

Nick Kyrgios is never far from controversy.

And he is at it again, this time continuing his public feud with 16-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic on social media.

Kyrgios posted a photo on Instagram with controversial American tennis player Tennys Sandgren – who lost to Roger Federer in that epic quarter-final – with the caption: Tennys and I love Novak.

The 24-year-old has since changed that caption, but not before it was picked up on Twitter.

It is not the only player Kyrgios has taken a swipe at this Australian Open, after he became tangled in a war of words with world No. 1 Rafael Nadal ahead of their fourth round encounter.

Kyrgios turned up after midnight to watch Djokovic play in a doubles match for Serbia against France in the ATP Cup earlier this year, where he jeered the 32-year-old throughout the match from the stands.

The bad blood stems from Kyrgios’ scathing comments on a popular tennis podcast with a New York Times journalist last year.

“I just feel like he has a sick obsession with wanting to be liked,” Kyrgios said on the No Challenges Remaining Podcast.

“He just wants to be like Roger (Federer). For me personally — I don’t care right now, I’ve come this far — I feel like he just wants to be liked so much that I just can’t stand him.

“This whole celebration thing (the ‘boob-throwing’ celebration towards the crowd) that he does after matches, it’s like so cringe-worthy. It’s very cringe-worthy.”
