The White House will propose keeping security assistance for Ukraine at current levels when it releases its upcoming budget, abandoning past attempts to slash State Department funding.

In its past two budget proposals, the Trump administration proposed cutting the State Department program for Ukraine to US$20 million. Each time, Congress rejected the cut and appropriated US$115 million for Ukraine from the program, called 'Foreign Military Financing.'

As UNIAN reported earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump on December 20 enacted the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The NDAA, among other things, reauthorizes US$300 million of funding for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, to include lethal defensive items as well as new authorities for coastal defense cruise missiles, and anti-ship missiles.
