Jodie Foster Set to Direct THE DAY THEY STOLE THE MONA LISA With One Foot in Truth and One in Fiction

by

Jodie Foster is a wonderful actress and director who has been particular about her projects over the years and has just picked up an interesting job directing a film based on a book called The Day They Stole the Mona Lisa. The book is based on a true story, written by Seymour Reit.

Jeffrey Soros of the Los Angeles Media Fund, who are making the film, spoke to Deadline while at Sundance Film Festival this weekend. Soros described the story as follows:

“This happened in 1911, and it was the thing that made the Mona Lisa so famous. It was developed by Phoenix, which is still involved, but we have got a whole new script that Bill Wheeler is writing for Jodie Foster to direct. This is in the mold of The Thomas Crown Affair, with The Sting also a plot device comp. It is a fun story, and the crime itself is not sophisticated. Our story mixes truth and fiction, and the focus is on the characters behind orchestrating the theft.”

I love Jodie Foster, and I love a good heist film. I think this will be a fun flick to see in theaters. I’m excited to see who Foster chooses to cast. Who would you like to see in this movie?
