A 19-year-old football fan has been killed in a horrific head-on car crash that left his twin fighting for his life.

Ollie Barraclough was being driven by his brother William when their white Volkswagen Polo collided with a BMW X1 on the A629 in North Yorkshire on Saturday.

The young Burnley supporter from Cononley, who worked as a bricklayer, was pronounced dead at the scene, while William is in a critical condition after being flown to Leeds General Infirmary.

Max Batey, 18, another passenger in the car, suffered life-changing injuries and was taken to Airedale Hospital.

The BMW's 63-year-old male driver, a woman, also 63, and a seven-year-old girl were treated for minor injuries at Airedale Hospital.

Police closed the road for eight hours and have appealed for witnesses to the shocking crash.

The twins' father Jeb said: 'Anyone fortunate enough to meet these twin brothers will know how much joy they have brought to the world.

'I love them both very dearly and it is with much regret we lost Oliver on Saturday night.'

He added: 'Fly high young man and keep a watch over us. Your happy smiling, charming, endearing character will never ever leave those enough to have been in your company.'

The family have raised £5,000 for Yorkshire Air Ambulance following an appeal.

The crash marked the third fatality in the area, just hours after a man and a woman were killed in a smash between a Mercedes Vito van and a Nissan Juke on the A59 near Broughton.

The Mercedes driver was detained.

District councillor Andy Brown said: 'Everyone has been left devastated by what happened.

'Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the young man who died and all those involved.'
