Man Utd transfer stance on Willian Jose after being offered loan deal for striker

Manchester United were offered the chance to take Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose - but baulked at the loan fee wanted by the Spanish club.

The Basque side are ready to let Jose leave the club, and he has been left out of their last three matches after asking to depart.

Tottenham, seeking a replacement for injured England captain Harry Kane, have also been tracking the 28 year-old.

Spurs' move has stalled because Sociedad were asking for a permanent fee in the region of £25million.

However, they are continuing to hold talks over a temporary switch until the end of the campaign.

Jose Mourinho has added Steven Bergwijn to his attack, but continues to want a centre-forward on Deadline Day.

But United, also seeking a short-term fix after Marcus Rashford’s injury, will now give their former boss a free run at the Brazilian.

The Red Devils had been offered a chance to take the ex-Santos man.

However, despite having only Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood available as first-team centre-forward options, they are unwilling to meet the La Liga club’s demands.

Unless La Real lower the loan fee on Friday, then it is a non-starter, at a time when ex-West Brom and Newcastle forward Salomon Rondon has also been linked.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed after the 1-0 win at the Etihad on Wednesday night that he is still looking for another goalscorer.

"We need more goalscorers, we need more goals; that's a definite," Solskjaer said.

“[We] Need someone who wants to break their nose to score a goal or their toe, doesn't have to be the nice ones, we know that.

"I am challenging them and I need to challenge them more, because we can't just score nice goals. Even today we pegged them back at times and played them deep and they stayed outside their box and defended, but we couldn't create those chances, those moments."
