Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sold over 8 million copies so far, beating EA’s expectations
by Sherif SaedEA is very happy with how Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order performed.
EA revealed the results of its third quarter for FY2020 overnight, touching on a number of past releases and upcoming games. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was a special highlight for EA, who said the game sold well above expectations.
EA previously expected Jedi Fallen Order to sell 6-8 million by the end of FY2020. According to CFO Blake Jorgensen, the game has already hit the high-end of that projection – meaning 8 million – just in the third quarter, where it launched.
EA is now adjusting its forecast to 10 million before FY2020 is over, meaning before the end of March. Jorgensen called it “a very strong result for a single-player action game.”
On the same call, CEO Andrew Wilson stopped just short of announcing new content/sequel for the game. “Any kind of live service or additional content would be different than what we would see in an Ultimate Team or an Apex Legends,” said Wilson, when asked if EA has live service plans for Jedi Fallen Order.
“But this team who is working on this is one of the most creative teams in our company and certainly in the industry who are thinking about where to take this journey next for players that love this style of play.”
Broadly, the success of Jedi Fallen Order helped EA recognise the need for different kinds of experiences within its portfolio, not just live service games.

“While social interaction competition and multiplayer is really important for a large part of that fan base, what we have seen through the last quarter is it also is that inspiration and escape model that living the Jedi journey, the Jedi story,” said Wilson.
