Did Apple Spend Billions on Improving Version of Maps?
by Peter G.Apple reportedly spent over billions of dollars over the new and improved version of their Apple Maps, which comes preinstalled in iPhones. News broke out on Thursday, Jan. 30, and they promised a more detailed experience to all who use it for going to and from. This update also benefits the United States users more than anywhere else.
Users will now be able to see detailed roads, buildings, parks, and other landmarks when looking at maps in the U.S. The company also boasted about their "mapping cars," having driven over 4 million miles to build their navigation from the ground up once again.
Also, new to this update is the "look around" mode, which is eerily similar to the feature that Google Maps Street View. This, however, is not really surprising since they have been in stiff competition in years, and really the more they compete, the users benefit from those updates. Just like the updates to Apple Maps now.

Why Invest Anyway?
This is really Apple's benefit as well in the long run, mainly because they don't want to outsource help from different companies in which they can just use their own data. This also helps the users because if the software comes from Apple itself, it would be easier to roll out updates and fixes on the fly as to waiting for other developers to do the job for them.
Ultimately the goal for this app is really to help people navigate across with ease, just like other apps of this nature like Waze, Google Maps. Up-to-date traffic news, best routes to take, places of interest, and what more.
