Lincoln will build their first electric vehicle with Rivian

An electric Lincoln model is coming

by

Last year, Ford announced that they will be teaming up with EV startup Rivian as part of a new strategic partnership to build electric vehicles. Now, it seems that the partnership with Rivian wasn't just for the Blue Oval alone. In fact, even their luxury division, Lincoln, will be building an EV with Rivian.

The Lincoln Motor Company recently announced that they will be developing its first pure-electric vehicle in collaboration with Rivian. However, Lincoln did not disclose any details or even the name of their upcoming EV just yet. What we do expect is that it will ride on Rivian's flexible “skateboard” platform, a modular system that integrates the battery, motor suspension, cooling system, and brakes into an interchangeable frame, similar to Ford.

“Working with Rivian marks a pivotal point for Lincoln as we move toward a future that includes fully electric vehicles. This vehicle will take Quiet Flight to a new place – zero emissions, effortless performance and connected and intuitive technology. It’s going to be stunning,” said Joy Falotico, president of The Lincoln Motor Company.

Currently, Lincoln already has several plug-in hybrid models in their lineup including the Aviator and Corsair Grand Touring. However, the luxury brand never had a pure-electric vehicle on offer. Moreso, with the addition of the luxury EV, the MKZ sedan will also cease production. According to the automaker, MKZ production will end in preparation for new Ford vehicles.

Though Lincoln didn't disclose any information about the upcoming EV, we're suspecting that it will be a crossover. Rivian currently has two vehicles in the works – the R1T pickup and the R1S SUV. Considering both are crossover-based, it is very likely that the first EV to be released by Lincoln will be a crossover as well.

We'll have to wait for further announcements from Lincoln in order to know more about their upcoming EV. It would be cool if they ended up building an electric Navigator in the not-so-distant future though.
