Turkey’s Oruc Reis research vessel was operating within the boundaries of Greece’s continental shelf on Friday.

The Turkish vessel entered Greece’s continental shelf area at 6.40 a.m. and was operating around 200 km of Megisti island, east of Crete.

Immediately to monitor its activity, Greek frigate HS Nikiforos Fokas was dispatched to the area.

It is believed that due to bad weather conditions, the vessel may have had to alter its course.

The Oruc Reis was not accompanied by a military vessel.

According to a Hellenic Ministry of Defence announcement, the Turkish research vessel OrucReis is leaving the Greek waters (EEZ).
Both the research vessel and the accompanying warships were apparently intercepted from HS NikiforosFokas F466
