12 days of school choice begins in Hillsborough County
by WFTS Digital StaffHILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Hillsborough County kicked off 12 Days of School Choice on Monday as they prepare to launch the most new programs in the district's history.
"Ten new school options are launching in the upcoming 2020 school year. The 12 Days of School Choice highlights these exciting programs and encourages families to apply before the application window closes on December 31," the district said.
From Monday to Friday, Dec. 20, social media takeovers and special events will showcase the record-setting number of new programs. New choices include, world-class academic options, digital careers and video game design, and workforce preparation for high-demand, high-paying jobs.

“We’re listening to our families and bringing them the education options they want, closer to where they live,” Superintendent Jeff Eakins said. “We’re taking some of our most popular programs, such as IB, and bringing them to new areas, and we’re also adding options that are innovative and brand new in our district, like Cambridge and 3DE by Junior Achievement.”
The 10 new programs launching are:
- Academy 2027 at Sumner High School (Riverview / South County) – First of its kind program for 6th Grade students, who will move with the same classmates and teachers through 6th, 7th & 8th Grades. Driven by the world-renowned Cambridge philosophy, which is new in our district.
- South Tampa Academy at Monroe Middle Magnet (South Tampa) – New International Baccalaureate (IB) Candidate School
- Greco Middle School (Temple Terrace) – New IB Candidate School
- New Tampa Digital Academy at Liberty Middle and Freedom High (New Tampa) – 7-year overarching sequence of courses preparing students for digital-related careers: 3D Animation, Game Design and Web Design
- Rodgers Middle Magnet (Riverview) – Cambridge Prep Academy Candidate School, driven by the internationally respected Cambridge Pathway philosophy, plus special add-on Cambridge Honors Institute
- Alonso High School (Westchase) – New IB Candidate School
- Marshall Middle School (Plant City) – New IB Candidate School
- 3DE at Hillsborough High School (Seminole Heights) – Program with Junior Achievement, students engage with industries to connect what they learn to the way it’s applied in the real world
- 3DE at Chamberlain High School (North Tampa) – Program with Junior Achievement, students engage with industries to connect what they learn, to the way it's applied in the real world
- Sumner High School Cambridge AICE program (Riverview / South County) – New world-class education option for students entering our district’s newest high school in the SouthShore area
