The Carlow native is up for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama.
Ms Ronan is no stranger to the famous award show, having already bagged herself a Golden Globe for her part in Ladybird.
And this is the second time the 25-year-old has been nominated for a role in a Greta Gerwig movie.
She faces stiff competition in a strong category with Cynthio Erivo (Harriet), Scarlett Johansson (Marriage Story), Charlize Theron (Bombshell) and Renee Zellweger (Judy).
Irishman Andrew Scott has picked up his first nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited
Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, for his role in Phoebe Waller Bridge’s Fleabag.
Scott will be up against Stellan Skarsgard for the brilliant Chernobyl and Henry Winkler for his role in Barry.
The nominations were announced live at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills by presenters Dakota Fanning, Susan Kelechi Watson and Tim Allen.
The 77th annual Golden Globes, presented by British comedian Ricky Gervais, will take place on January 5.
Joaquin Phoenix has been nominated for Best Actor - Drama for his role in Joker.
He is joined by fellow nominees Christian Bale (Ford v Ferrari),
Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory), Adam Driver (Marriage Story) and Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes).
