Sheff G Goes For It All in New Freestyle
by Kai AcevedoLife comes with its fair share of wins and losses, and Sheff G has experience with both. “My rap career is lucky. Making it out the hood, that’s lucky, but there’s still been a lot of bad shit that’s happened to me. I’ve been through it all,” says the rapper from Brooklyn, who first caused rumbles with his music back in 2017 with the release of the popular single “No Suburban.” Equipped with tales of surviving hardships growing up in the concrete jungle, also known as New York City, Sheff’s recently released debut project, The Unluccy Luccy Kid, “explains the story of my life—being unlucky, but lucky at the same time,” he says. Coming from rags to riches, Sheff G reflects on his past in XXL’s What I Do?
“Going for it all, nigga, it ain’t no surprise/Look, know you thought I’d die/See right through my lies/Ma, I made you cry/I'm sorry, I made it/Look, late nights on the block it was me and Sleep/Nowhere to sleep,” raps G.
Released via Winner's Circle/EMPIRE, Sheff G’s The Unluccy Luccy Kid consists of 14 tracks, including the singles “We Getting Money,” which has almost reached 3.5 million views on YouTube and the Great John-produced “Feel Ah Way." Featuring collaborations with Mozzy and partner-in-rhyme, Sleepy Hallow, the “Panic” rapper’s debut project not only displays just how about that life he really is, but also further establishes the 21-year-old from East Flatbush as a leader in BK’s emerging Drill scene. “I really could relate to that Drill sound, you feel me? That’s why I fuck with it so much,” says G, who has been inspired by the music of Chief Keef, G Herbo, Lil Bibby and others synonymous with the Chicago-based Drill movement.
