‘Joker’ Laughs His Way to Four Golden Globes Nominations, Including Best Motion Picture

The Joker is smiling wide today, as we’ve learned this morning that the Todd Phillips-directed film has been nominated for FOUR Golden Globes awards including Best Picture.

In the Best Motion Picture – Drama category, Joker (which has now crossed $1 billion at the box office) will be battling 1917, The Irishman, Marriage Story and The Two Popes.

Joaquin Phoenix, naturally, has also been nominated in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama category for his performance as Arthur Fleck, aka the Joker.

Director Todd Phillips has been nominated for Best Director – Motion Picture, while Hildur Guðnadóttir‘s original score for Joker has been nominated for Best Original Score.

Other genre-related nominations this year include Emily Watson for “Chernobyl,” Knives Out and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Ana de Armas and Daniel Craig for Knives Out, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and writer/director Quentin Tarantino for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Bong Joon-ho for Parasite.

The 2020 Golden Globes will be airing on Sunday, January 5.
