You Can Score a Bib to the London Marathon Through Zwift

Didn’t make it into the 2020 London Marathon? Well, there’s at least one more chance to get in, thanks to Zwift and New Balance.

The online-training platform Zwift announced via a press release on Monday, December 9, that it has partnered with New Balance to create the Marathon Mission challenge. To participate, willing competitors will run 26.2 miles total over a two-week span in the month of December while using the Zwift app (available on IoS and Google Play), which requires either a Bluetooth-enabled footpod or a Bluetooth-enabled treadmill.

Once they log their miles on Zwift, runners will unlock the in-game New Balance Run Club Kit for their virtual avatars and be entered into a drawing for the grand prize: a London race bib and a cash allowance of $1,500 to spend on the marathon weekend on April 26.

“Each year, competition to draw a place in the [London Marathon] gets harder and harder,” Eric Min, Zwift CEO and Co-Founder, said in a press release. “This is why we are so excited to be able to partner with New Balance and offer up a very rare opportunity. For the winner, it really will be a once in a lifetime event.”

The lucky Zwift runner headed to London will be selected on January 10.

The London Marathon is one of the largest in the world, drawing roughly 40,000 runners every year. A record 457,000 people applied for race entries this year. Of those, only 17,500 were selected via general entry. The remaining spots are reserved for charity and elite runners.
