Met Office issues yellow weather warning, with 'strong winds' expected in Greater Manchester

Strong winds are expected to sweep across Greater Manchester in the next 24 hours.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the region. 'Very strong winds' could cause traffic and transport disruption.

The warning is in place from 5am until 5pm on Tuesday (December 10).

"Very strong winds are expected during Tuesday and may cause some disruption," the Met Office website states.

People should expect some delays on the region's roads, on the trains - and potentially at the airport.

Drivers of high-sided vehicles should expect delays on exposed roads and bridges.

Power cuts could occur as a result of the weather, forecasters warn.

The warning covers Greater Manchester, as well as Lancashire, Blackburn with Darwen, Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, Cumbria, Halton, Merseyside and Warrington.

The Met Office website added: "Tuesday will be wet and windy as locally heavy rain lingers across the region through the day. Maximum temperature 13 C."

Wednesday and Thursday will be cold and windy with showery rain with the possibility of snow on higher ground.
