Unconfirmed reports say an army commander is killed in a Borno bomb attack

- Unconfirmed reports claim that an army officer is killed by an explosive device during a patrol in Marte, Borno state

- The report is however unclear whether other members of the patrol including members of the civilian joint task force were injured or killed during the incident

- The army is yet to confirm the alleged incident in an official statement

An improvised explosive device reportedly killed a Nigerian Army commander on Saturday, December 7, after it detonated near his vehicle in Marte, Borno state.

Premium Times, citing military sources reported that the commander, a major, was leading a patrol of 153 task force battalion in Marte local government area (LGA) when the incident occurred.

The report, however, did not state whether other members of the patrol troops, including members of the civilian joint task force, were injured or killed during the incident.

However, the army has yet to confirm the alleged incident in an official statement as the newspaper said that the army spokesperson, Sagir Musa, is yet to respond to reports about the incident.

Meanwhile, one Boko Haram fighter was killed and others injured when Nigerian soldiers fighting insurgency in the northeast attacked a hideout of some terrorists at Malam Fatori in Abadam local government area of Borno state.

Colonel Aminu Iliyasu, the Nigerian Army operations media coordinator, in a statement on Monday, December 9, said the attack was carried out by troops of 68/94 battalions of operation Lafiya Dole following intelligence earlier received by a surveillance plane.

After the attack, hideout, the troops reportedly pursued the fleeing insurgents. During the pursuit, they discovered a body of one Boko Haram terrorist and further observed several trails of blood along the said route.
