Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann issues advisory as strong winds set to batter Ireland after Storm Atiyah chaos

There are fears that trees and structures weakened by Storm Atiyah could be damaged even further

A weather advisory is in place with Ireland expected to be battered by strong winds tomorrow.

Met Eireann has issued the notice for most of Tuesday, with fears that trees and structures weakened by Storm Atiyah could be damaged even further.

The alert reads: "Tuesday will be a blustery day with strong winds and very gusty conditions associated with an active front moving eastwards across the country.

"Generally, winds will be below warning thresholds but damage to some structures and trees, already weakened from the effects of Storm Atiyah, is possible."

The national forecaster explained that advisories are generally one step below full warnings, and are often used when high winds and high tides generate a "risk of flooding".

The advisory will take effect at 4am on Tuesday, and remain in place until 4pm.

It comes as around 7,000 customers ares still without power following Storm Atiyah.

ESB Networks said crews are working to restore faults as quickly as possible.

The company was working on faults in Ratoath, Co Meath and in parts of Co Westmeath on Monday morning.

There are more than 330 properties without electricity in Bushfield, Co Westmeath.

Over 250 customers are affected by power outages at Loughtagalla, Co Tipperary and 238 homes are affected in Inch, Co Kerry.

Winds caused by the storm wreaked havoc in parts of the country as status orange and red wind warnings were issued.
