Two caravans destroyed in fire

Police are investigating a fire that destroyed caravans and portable toilets in Plymstock last night.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service first received reports of a caravan on fire at Hooe at 8.52pm.

A fire service spokesperson said: "A fire engine from Plymstock and one from Greenbank attended reports of a caravan on fire. On arrival crews confirmed that two caravans were well alight and immediately got to work extinguishing the fire.

"Crews used two hose reel jets, one main jet, two breathing apparatus and on thermal imaging camera. Both caravans and a portaloo were completely damaged by the fire.

"Police were also in attendance and duty of care has been handed over to them.

"The cause of this fire is believed to be deliberate."

"A police spokesperson said: "Police are investigating a suspicious fire in Hooe, Plymouth, last night in which two caravans were destroyed.

"The caravans were situated in the car park next to the Beckly Centre in Mayers Way.

"The fire began sometime between 8.30pm and 8.50pm on Sunday 8 December.

"The caravans were destroyed by the fire.

"No-one was injured as the vehicles were unoccupied at the time.

"Police are working to establish the cause of the fire which is currently being treated as arson.

"Anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the car park around the time of the offence is asked to contact police via 101@dc.police.uk or by phone on 101, quoting crime reference CR/110414/19."
