Online booking for ID cards now available in Portugal

A protocol signed Friday in Lisbon will allow the State Booking Centre to operate an online scheduling service via the ePortugal Portal, the Ministry of Justice (MJ) informed.

The aim of this protocol, signed by the Institute of Registries and Notaries (IRN), the Institute of Financial Management and Justice Infrastructures (IGFEJ) and the Agency for Administrative Modernization (AMA), is to increase the speed of service to obtain official documents, such as a citizen's ID card, previously only available on the justiça.gov.pt portal.

Consulting the status of online applications for renewal of ID cards will now also be available on the ePortugal Portal.

71,007 online renewals of ID cards were carried out through the ePortugal Portal, between 20 June, the date on which the service was launched, and the last Wednesday, indicated the MJ.

These initiatives were announced as part of an attempt to modernise the digital services of Justice. It is now possible to use the Digital Mobile Key, as a means of simple and secure authentication, and which are part of the Digital Platform of Justice (https://justica.gov.pt/).

Among the available services, the Online Criminal Record Certificate, which now includes a new permanent criminal certificate functionality, useful for applicants who need this information repeatedly.

Between August 2016 and November 2019, more than 170,000 online criminal record certificates were issued.
