EFCC secures 84 convictions in Edo - The Nation Newspaper

The Benin Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said it has secured 84 convictions from January 2019 till date.

It said the sum of N217, 268, 236 was recovered within the said period.

Head of Benin Zonal Office, Mr. Muhtar Bello, stated this after a road walk to mark the World Anti-Corruption day.

Bello led EFCC officials and members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) round major streets of Benin City sensitizing the public on the need to say something about corruption in their work places.

He said several properties including houses, assorted cars and vessels were also recovered.

The Benin Zonal head said the commission was determined to win the fight against corruption through its preventive measures diligent prosecution and prosecution.

According to him, “For us at the EFCC, we recognise the fact that we cannot win the fight against corruption alone. We need the support and cooperation of all stakeholders in order to make meaningful progress in restoring transparency, accountability and due process in public governance.

“I urged members and leaders of various interest groups, trade unions, civil society organisations and professional bodies to facilitate mass education, mobilisation and active participation of Nigerians in the fight against corruption.”
