A man has been 'taken unwell' at the scene of a suspected chemical incident after police were called to reports of racist graffiti.
Surrey Police said officers were called to a private address in South Farm Lane in Lightwater at around 9am today.
Gordon's School, two miles away in West End, Woking, is on lockdown while emergency services deal with the incident.
One person is being treated at the scene by South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) paramedics.
Specialist crews from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) are also in attendance.
Racially offensive graffiti targeting the traveller community has been sprayed onto a gate on the A322, according to witnesses.
In a statement, Gordon's School said: 'The school is currently following police advice to local residents to keep windows and doors closed following several road closures in the area due to a suspected chemical incident.
'The students and staff are safe and indoors and will remain so until we receive further advice from the police.'
A SFRS spokesman said: 'We were called to an address in South Farm Lane around 9am today (December 9).
'Firefighters and specialist officers have been deployed following reports of a strong-smelling substance at the address.
'A police cordon is currently in place.'
SECAmb confirmed that there have been no further reports of injuries at this stage.
The northbound A322 Lightwater bypass remains closed for two miles from Gordon's School roundabout in West End to the M3 junction 3. The M3 southbound exit slip road is also shut.
Residents in the area have been told to keep their windows and doors closed and to go inside 'for the time being' if they live downwind from the affected area.
One resident, Debbie Hunt, said: 'I was just about to go outside and clean my car when I heard the news so I stayed indoors.
'The thing is I need to go out later today but we still don't know what the chemical actually is.
'It's scary to be told that we have to keep our windows and doors shut. I'm scared to even let the dogs out in the garden.'
Tory MP for Surrey Heath Michael Gove tweeted to say he is 'investigating' the incident.
