CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Police have issued a Citizen Commendable Action Coin to a Cape Coral man who helped rescue an elderly woman from a canal last month.

According to Cape Coral Police, on November 27th, Jeffrey Jennings saw an unknown elderly woman in the waters of the canal behind his home. He called 911 to summon police and medical personnel, then rode his bicycle to the home she appeared to be near on the opposite canal bank.

Jennings guided officers to the correct location, then jumped into the water to get the woman to safety.

The woman was assessed by medical staff and determined to be suffering from confusion and the early stages of hypothermia. Thanks to the actions of Jennings, she did not suffer any lasting effects.

Officers Ken Cody and William Dotson recommended Jennings be issued the Citizen Commendable Action Coin for his actions and assistance in helping the woman, and presented him with the award on December 2nd.
