Final 10 In The Running For RTÉ Sportsperson Of The Year Revealed
by Michael CorryRTÉ have revealed the 10-person shortlist for their Sportsperson of the Year award which will be announced on Saturday, December, 14.
Last week, they released a long-list of 26 names who had been provisionally nominated for the award but that has now been whittled down to the final 10.
The awards will be televised live on RTÉ and the show will also see the Young Sportsperson of the Year crowned as well as Team of the Year and Manager of the Year.

Katie Taylor
The Bray boxer made history by unifying all four world lightweight titles in 2019 before moving up in weight to collect another world title and become Ireland’s third-ever two-weight world champion.
Stephen Cluxton
The long-time Dublin captain was finally honoured for his exploits in 2019 by receiving the Footballer of the Year award. Lead Dublin to a first-ever five-in-a-row.
Shane Lowry
Created history by claiming his first major earlier this year when the Offaly man stormed his way to victory in the 148th Open at Royal Portrush.
Seamus Callanan
Eight goals in eight Championship games for the Tipperary skipper and 2019 Hurler of the Year as the Premier County ended the decade on a high winning the Liam MacCarthy Cup.
Niamh Kilkenny
Kilkenny was in super form collecting player of the match awards in both the All-Ireland semi-final and final as Galway camogie collected just their third-ever O’Duffy Cup.
Jason Smyth
Sprinter Smyth scorched his way to an eighth World Para-Athletics Championships gold medal in Dubai, defeating his own championship record in the final of the 100m in the T13 class with a time of 10.54.
Sanita Puspure
The Latvian-born rower successfully retained her women’s single sculls gold medal at the Rowing World Championships in Austria.
Denise O’Sullivan
The Republic of Ireland international was named ‘MVP’ for the second campaign in a row as North Carolina Courage claimed their second consecutive National Women’s Soccer League title.
Rhys McClenaghan
McClenaghan became the first Irish gymnast to medal at the World Championships in Stuttgart when he claimed bronze in the pommel horse. While also booking his spot at the 2020 Olympic Games.
Ciara Mageean
The Portaferry native ran a personal best in the 1500m World final at the Athletics World Championships in Doha after becoming just the second Irishwoman to make it to a 1500m after the great Sonia O’Sullivan.
