The National Council has elected Bernard Sibalatani from the Zambezi Region as the new Chairperson while Victoria Mbawo Kauma from the Kavango East Region as his Deputy on Monday.
The new election was necessitated by the resignation of Magreth Mensah-Williams who was elected on Swapo's list of candidates to the National Assembly.
She was deputised by Sibalatani who is now elevated to become the new Chair of the house.
Sibalatani called on members to take their work seriously to deliver to Namibians and to make sure that the house always has a quorum.
He also commended his predecessor Mensah-Williams for having led the house and promised to continue to work side by side with the National Assembly to review laws that govern and serve Namibians.
