Child hit by vehicle in Immokalee Monday morning

UPDATE (12 PM) -- Troopers say the child that was hit by a vehicle in Immokalee Monday morning had darted into the roadway.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 7-year-old Carlos Cortez, Jr. was crossing New Market Road when he "dashed" in front of a westbound Jeep.

The crash remains under investigation.

IMMOKALEE, Fla. -- Troopers say a child was seriously injured Monday morning when they were hit by a vehicle.

It happened at 7:46 a.m. at the intersection of New Market Road and Glades Street in Immokalee.

The pedestrian was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the driver stayed on scene and cooperated with troopers.
