The Athlete of the Week nominees for Dec.. 2-8. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced on next week’s Prep Focus page. Each weekly winner will be included in an Athlete of the Month poll.

Sophie Averill | Everett | Girls Wrestling

Averill, a senior, won the 100-pound weight class Saturday at the Jump On In Tournament in Yelm. She helped the Seagulls to a fourth-place finish in the team standings.

Shae Dixon and Alex Jensen | Lakewood | Boys Basketball

Dixon, a junior, and Jensen, a senior, combined for eight of the Cougars’ 15 3-point field goals — four apiece — in an 82-76 win over Stanwood on Wednesday in the season opener for both teams. Dixon finished with 23 points. Jensen added 20.

Aksel Espeland, Darin Sedenius, Johnny Romero and Johnny Franke | Darrington | Boys Wrestling

Espeland (106 pounds), Sedenius (126), Romero (138) and Franke (220) each placed first in his weight class as the Loggers cruised to a first-place team finish at the Ocasta Invitational on Saturday.

Taras Fesiienko | Everett | Boys Basketball

Fesiienko, a junior guard, scored 43 points to lead the Seagulls to a 69-58 win over Cascade on Friday in the annual BruGull Fest game between city rivals.

Jasmine Ford | Oak Harbor | Girls Basketball

Ford, a senior, scored 20 points in the Wildcats’ 68-51 win over Mariner on Dec. 3. She then recorded a double-double (14 points, 15 rebounds) in the Wildcats’ 53-51 victory over Sedro-Woolley on Saturday.

Hannah Hvitved | Monroe | Girls Basketball

Hvitved, a senior, scored with one second remaining in regulation to force overtime in the Bearcats’ season opener Wednesday at Redmond. Monroe eventually lost, 43-38, but Hvitved recorded a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Raigan Reed | Lake Stevens | Girls Basketball

Reed, a senior guard and Boise State signee, scored five points and added a steal in the final 17 seconds to help the Vikings come from behind to beat Arlington 57-54 in a non-conference game Friday night. Lake Stevens trailed by as many as 10 points in the fourth quarter.
