A driver miraculously escaped unharmed after a tree fell on their car during Storm Atiyah.

The motorist in Co Cork suffered no injuries in the terrifying incident.

Emergency services were busy responding to several incidents on Sunday as gusts of up to 130km/h battered the south coast.

And shocking pictures show the extensive damage to the windscreen of one vehicle after an enormous tree fell due to the high winds.

Cork City Fire Brigade wrote on Twitter: "This motorist had a lucky escape when a tree fell on their vehicle during Storm Atiyah.

"Crews responded to multiple calls yesterday and last night including several trees down and dangerous building reports.

"Thankfully no injuries reported at any incident."

Meanwhile parts of the south-west are recovering today after Storm Atiyah wreaked havoc on Sunday.

The ESB says that it is currently working to restore electricity to affected areas.
