Bangladeshis bag all 10 gold medals in archery events of SA games

Archers Suma Biswas, Sohel Rana, Eti Khatun and Roman Sana won gold medals at separate events in archery at the South Asian Games in Nepal on Monday.

Suma beat her Sri Lankan competitor by 142-134 and Sohel defeated his Bhutanese competitor by 137-136 in their compound singles events.

Eti Khatun bested her Bhutanese rival by 7-3 while Roman Sana triumphed over his Bhutanese opponent by 7-1 in their recurve singles events.

Bangladesh’s total gold tally in the competition now stands at 18.

Earlier, Bangladesh’s most successful SA Games campaign abroad was of seven gold medals in India’s Madras (Chennai) in 1995.

At home, Bangladeshi athletes clinched 11 gold medals in 1993.

Roman Sana, Md Tamimul Islam, and Md Hakim Ahmed Rubel were part of the team that won gold medals by beating Sri Lanka by 5-3 sets in the men's team recurve event.

Eti Khatun, Mehnaz Aktar Monira and Beauty Rai won gold by 6-0 in the women's team recurve event.

Eti Khatun, and Sana beat Bhutan 6-2 in the mixed recurve event to clinch gold medals.

Asim Kumar Das, Sohel Rana and Mohammad Ashikuzzaman beat Bhutan by 225-214 in the men’s compound team event.

Sushmita Banik, Shyamoli Roy and Suma Biswas defeated Sri Lanka by 226-215 in the women’s compound team event.

Jewel Rana and Roksana Akter beat hosts Nepal by 148-140 in the compound mixed doubles event.
