STUCK IN ITS TRACKS
Bus stuck on Borders Railway line after smash in Galashiels sparking emergency response
by Blair MeikleA BUS crashed into the Borders Railway line, sparking an emergency response.
Pictures online showed the vehicle stuck on the tracks in Galashiels last night.
It appeared to have left the road and ploughed through a fence.
Emergency services including police and fire crews were spotted at the scene.
The driver of the bus was checked over at the scene but didn't need hospital treatment.
And the incident has affected services between Edinburgh and Tweedbank.
The smash happened on Station Brae, just yards from the town's train station, at around 8.30pm last night.
It's unclear how the bus ended up on the tracks, but it may have come round a roundabout which is next to the line.
Heavy rainfall across the country today has made roads treacherous.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Officers are in attendance at Galashiels Railway station following a one-vehicle road traffic collision.
"The collision occurred around 8.30pm and involved a bus which came to rest on the railway line.
"One person was checked over at the scene by Scottish Ambulance service but did not require to go to hospital.
"The bus was not carrying any passengers at the time."
The railway line was closed and replacement bus services were arranged by Scotrail.

Officers remain in attendance and enquiries are ongoing.
ScotRail bosses said that disruption was expected until 9am this morning.
A spokeswoman from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "I can confirm that the fire Service were in attendance.
"All we were required to do was ensure the vehicle was made safe."
ScotRail said: "We're dealing with an incident on the line between #Tweedbank & #Galashiels.
"Services between Edinburgh and Tweedbank will be delayed or revised."
Meanwhile, a pensioner has died after a horror smash near Aberdeen this morning.
The 69-year-old man died at the scene after a white Mazda collided with a coach on the A92 at Newtonhill.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after the alarm was raised at 9.45am, but he sadly could not be saved despite their best efforts.
