by

Waterford camogie have received a massive boost with the news that Dan Shanahan has taken over the reins as head coach of the senior side for 2020.

Shanahan has already worked with manager Fergal O’Brien in the past when both were part of Derek McGrath’s backroom team with the senior hurling side. They went on to the reach the All-Ireland decider in 2017, however, both men stepped away from their respective roles the following season.

“We are delighted to announce that Dan Shanahan will be our head Senior camogie coach for 2020,” the county said via Twitter.

“We wish Fergal, Dan, Pauline and all the team the very best.”

Widely regarded as a legend of Waterford hurling, Shanahan was one of the country’s most feared full-forwards throughout a playing career that saw him win four Munster titles, a National League crown and three All-Star awards as well as the 2007 hurler of the year award.

Fergal O’Brien was appointed to the hot-seat in October of this year, taking over from Donal O’Rourke who took the camogie side to unprecedented heights during his two-year stint with back-to-back All-Ireland quarter-final appearances.
