Police say Kitchener murder victim likely targeted

Irshad Sabriye was found with gunshot wounds on Highway 7/8 early Tuesday morning

Waterloo Regional Police have released new information regarding Tuesday's homicide in Kitchener.

Investigators believe Irshad Sabriye knew the suspect or suspects and that it may be a targeted attack, but police are reminding residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or people.

Police have yet to release any suspect information.

The 20-year-old Kitchener man was located with gunshot wounds on Highway 7/8 and Courtland Avenue, shortly after 2 a.m. on Tuesday, November 26.

On Wednesday afternoon, police confirmed Sabriye died of gunshot wounds.

Police will be in the area of Connaught Street in Kitchener on Friday to conduct a ground search.

There was a car fire there around 4 a.m. Tuesday, which investigators believe is connected to the homicide.

A black, four-door, 2019 Nissan Sentra was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at the scene.
