Netflix explore America's most haunted locations and we're already creeped out

Brace yourselves horror fans – Netflix is planning a new documentary series about some of the most haunted locations across America.

Although it sounds quite terrifying there’s no doubt that we will be binge watching our way through this, and we cannot wait.

The upcoming docuseries is described as a ‘gritty and meticulous study’ of some of ‘America’s most haunted locations’, according to Variety.

Joe Berlinger, who is responsible for the true crime documentary series Conversations With A Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes and feature film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil And Vile, is set to direct the upcoming series.

The documentary could potentially take a look at abandoned mansions and mental asylums, as well as Eastern State Penitentiary – a former prison which is now open to the US public as a museum.

Netflix has acquired the project from Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s Imagine Entertainment, alongside another series set to focus on sexual abuse within the Catholic Church.

Gabe Spitzer, director of original documentaries at Netflix, has said that the team at Imagine is ‘excited’ for the docuseries to be brought to the streaming service.

‘The Imagine team have quickly built a first-rate division working with many of the industry’s top documentary filmmakers,’ he said.

‘We’re excited about the rich and compelling series coming to Netflix and look forward to sharing these with our members around the world.’

It is not yet known when the series will hit Netflix, although it is expected to be sometime in 2020.

In the meantime, fans of true crime will be able to catch Netflix’s latest offering, The Confession Killer, which focuses on serial killer Henry Lee.

Henry was convicted of murdering his mother in 1960 and two others in 1983 – but confessed to killing hundreds of other people while speaking to police – with people left wondering whether or not he was telling the truth.
