Dane Vilas scoops Wahab Riaz: Durban Heat’s captain led from the front with the bat in hand during a 182-run chase at Newlands.

During the 18th match of the ongoing second season of the Mzansi Super League between Cape Town Blitz and Durban Heat in Cape Town, Durban Heat captain Dane Vilas hit an outstanding six off Cape Town Blitz fast bowler Wahab Riaz.

It all happened on the third delivery of the 18th over when Vilas scooped a full-toss from Riaz over the wicket-keeper’s head for a superlative six. The 34-year old player might have lost his balance in the process but was successful in gaining the desired result.

Chasing a 182-run target, Vilas’ 12th T20 half-century powered the visitors to seal the chase in the last over. It was a 93-run unbeaten partnership which worked well for Heat. Coming in to bat at No. 4 in the third over, Vilas ended up scoring 75* (52) with the help of six fours and three sixes.

After Blitz captain Quinton de Kock won the toss and chose to bat, the hosts posted 181/5 in 20 overs on the back of opening batsman Janneman Malan scoring 75 (42) with the help of two fours and seven sixes. With bowling figures of 4-0-32-2, Durban fast bowler Kyle Abbott was the pick of the bowlers for them.

Playing their sixth match, Heat registered their maiden victory yesterday. While they are reeling at No. 5 in the points table, Blitz are at No. 4 with three wins in seven matches.
