TWO female Guruve villagers died in separate incidents yesterday, one was trapped to death while prospecting for gold and the other drowned while swimming at Dande River.

Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe confirmed the cases.

"I can confirm two cases of sudden death in Guruve, one is  Joice Chitsinde of Tagara village under chief Chipuriro died while illegally panning for gold at impinge River, while a juvenile Pamela Tauzeni (14) drowned  at Dande River , Guruve yesterday," Mundembe said.

Allegations are that Chitsinde was illegally panning for gold when a disused shaft collapsed and killed her on the spot; her body was retrieved by her colleagues and was sent to Guruve hospital for post-mortem.

It is further alleged that Tauzeni had gone for swimming with her friends when she drowned and her body was retrieved by another villager Workmore Chimbwana.

Police warned illegal miners to regularize their operations so as to practise safe mining methods while encouraging guidance to carefully take care of their children by making sure that they do not swim in Rivers.
