A batch of Sriracha Hot Chili sauce has been recalled over safety concerns due to the contents exploding when opened.

Customers have been warned that the exploding chili sauce could irritate the eyes or skin.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has issued a recall for the products with a best before date of March 2021.

The pack size of the affected batch is 740ml, and the products originated in the United States.

An FSAI spokesman said: "This batch of Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce is being recalled due to the risk of the contents exploding once the bottle is opened.

"This poses a risk of hot chili sauce irritating eyes or skin."

The products with a batch code of H9TMKA 44 33 are affected by the alert.
