Odisha hotel staff arrested for installing CCTV in washrooms, blackmailing customers

A hotel in Odisha's capital Bhubaneswar is accused of violation of privacy of its guests and blackmailing.
Nayapalli police, after receiving a complaint, raided Arya Residency hotel located at IRC Village on Thursday. The complaint was that there are CCTV cameras hidden in the hotel's washrooms and the establishment records objectionable videos of its guests and further blackmails them for money.
A woman, who registered the complaint with the Nayapalli police, said that she was in the hotel to celebrate her birthday with her friends. Soon she received a call. The caller told her that he is in possession of a video which shows her and her friends in a compromising situation.
After the complaint was registered, the police raided Arya Residency hotel and two staff members were arrested on the spot.
These arrested accused used to dig out numbers from the hotel's entry register and after zeroing in on their targets, they used to record the videos and blackmail their victims for money.
