Natwest and RBS customers miss out on Black Friday deals after apps go down
Natwest, RBS and First Direct customers were left frustrated after their online banking went down this morning.
Customers said they missed out on Black Friday deals because they were unable to access their money due to the fault.
Almost 3,000 users reported the issue to website DownDetector.
A frustrated customer tweeted: ‘Really helpful for @NatWest_Help online banking and app to go down on pay day AND Black Friday.’
Another person added: ‘@RBS online banking is down for me? I assume #BlackFriday is clogging up the banking systems? #RBS’
First Direct, which received 240 complaints, admitted there was a ‘brief technical issue’ with access to its online and mobile banking but it had been resolved.
RBS Group, which owns RBS and Natwest, also confirmed there were ‘intermittent issues accessing our mobile and online banking.’

More than 2,700 users said they had difficulty with RBS Group online services today.
The problems started at 9.03 am and affected all of its brands including NatWest, Royal Bank and Ulster.
RBS confirmed the problem was ongoing but customers could still access cash through debit cards, credit cards, ATMs, telephone and branch banking services.
First Direct spokesperson said: ‘We experienced a brief technical issue with access to our online and mobile banking this morning.
‘This was quickly resolved and everything is now working as it should.
‘We’d like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused and thank them for their patience.’
An RBS spokesperson added: ‘We are aware that some customers are experiencing intermittent issues accessing our mobile and online banking.
‘We apologise to customers for the inconvenience and are working hard to fix the problem.
‘There is no impact on debit cards, credit cards, ATMs, telephone and branch banking services – customers can continue to access these as normal.’
