Teen celebrating the end of school plunges to death from high-rise hotel

Charlie Scott, 18, from Australia, died after falling from the Hilton Hotel in Surfers Paradise on Queensland's Gold Coast while celebrating his school graduation with friends

Tributes have flooded in for a school graduate who plunged to his death from the balcony of a high-rise hotel in Australia.

Charlie Scott, 18, from Montmorency, northeast of Melbourne, is believed to have jumped from the Hilton Hotel in Surfers Paradise on Queensland's Gold Coast.

One horrified witness described how they heard a "loud bang" following the incident during the early hours of November 26, reports the Daily Star .

"I was a street away waiting for a taxi and heard a really loud bang," Johnson Muir said.

"I thought somebody had just thrown something off the balcony but then I heard the screams.

"By the time I walked around the corner police were already on the scene and holding the kids back.

"One girl was bawling her eyes out screaming 'I could've helped him and now he's dead, he's dead'."

It is believed the teen had been celebrating 'Schoolies' with a group of student friends from Parade College when tragedy struck.

Schoolies is a week-long holiday for recent school graduates in Australia and has developed a reputation for rowdy and unruly behaviour in recent times.

Reports say Scott had published a series of concerning post before his death and local police are not believed to be looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Forensics teams sealed off the area surrounding the hotel on Orchid Avenue as people pay their respects by leaving flowers at the scene.

Tributes have flooded in on social media for the youngster, who was described as "one of the best blokes you will ever meet".

“RIP Charlie Scott. Kind, hardworking, always smiling. You will be missed brother,” one friend wrote.

Another friend said he was “such a sweet, kind-hearted guy, taken away way too soon, you will be dearly missed”.

“Rest in peace bro you will be missed. Fly high brother,” a third said.

A Hilton spokesperson confirmed the teen had been staying at a room in the hotel.

She added: "It is with deep regret that we confirm a guest at the private residences located at Hilton Surfers Paradise has passed away.

"We offer our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones at this difficult time."
