81-year-old man dies in Ecija mishap
by Steve A. GosuicoSAN ANTONIO, Nueva Ecija -- An 81-year-old man on a bicycle was killed after he was hit from behind by a speeding L-300 van Thursday morning.
Newly-installed police chief Major Roderick Corpuz identified the fatality as Rodolfo Cruz, of Bgy. San Mariano. The van’s driver, who was later arrested, was identified as Berlin de Guzman, 55, of Bgy. San Francisco.
Local police said both vehicles were traversing the same road in Bgy. San Mariano around 6:30 a.m. However, when bike-riding Cruz suddenly turned left, he was sideswept by the L-300 van (AAI-5376) being driven by De Guzman.
Cruz fellfrom the bike and was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital from severe head injuries.
Corpuz will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
